Everyday life/Society, Germany 2005

"Between the Lines" documents the efforts of photographer Anita Khemka to get closer to the life of the hijras, the eunuchs of India. There, as outsiders on the fringes of society, they live an existence full of contradictions: Hijras are infertile, yet in the eyes of many Indians they have the gift of giving fertility. And although they are castrated, eroticism is omnipresent in their lives. Between the Lines" follows three of these special people. The film was made in cooperation with the editorial department "Länder-Menschen-Abenteuer" of SWR and ARTE.
