Roberto is recently divorced and lives again with his father Samuel in his 2-room flat in Tel Aviv. Both love Brazilian football, the team of their home country. Roberto's eleven-year-old son Itay finds football totally boring and doesn't like his father and grandfather either. When Samuel learns that he won't live much longer, he scrapes together his savings and sits down with his son and grandson on a plane to Brazil - where the World Cup is taking place. His dream is to attend the final match once again in the temple of football, the Maracanã Stadium. A wild trip in a camper van begins, which changes each of them. BACK TO MARACANÃ is a wonderfully light road movie between cultures and generations. With sensitivity and humour, the film tells of the big themes in life: family, home, football and food. An exciting and touching journey between campsites, barbecues, ticket offices and stadiums - not only for football fans.
