Un amour rêvé

History/Family, Belgium 2018

As a child, Arthur was fascinated by the idyllic love story of his grandparents: a beautiful Congolese woman married to a Belgian colonist. But shortly after the death of his grandmother, the young director discovers family archives that shake up his childhood memories. In this very personal film, the director uses footage shot by his family and films photographs or family archives himself. Slowly, he recounts his memories of his grandmother Léontine and his research to learn more about her life. Several generations come to life on the screen in the context of the Belgian colonisation of the Congo.
