The tomboyish Joe (Katharina Wackernagel) seems out of place among the beautified girls of her small hometown in Brandenburg. With her hot-headed nature, the 19-year-old has never been able to keep a job for more than three months. Yet she has serious money problems: since Joe's father died in a car accident, her mother has sunk into debt and is constantly trying to borrow money from her daughters. Joe has nothing but contempt for the rest of her family. But she can't turn to friends either. Her former clique has turned their backs on her and terrorizes her for being different. Mandy (Teresa Weißbach), who is beautiful, makes life especially difficult for her. Joe's hopelessness slowly begins to brighten when Stella (Fanny Staffa), a childhood friend, returns to Brandenburg from exciting Berlin. Like Joe, she is unwilling to fit into the confines of the community and appreciates Joe's wildness. With Stella's support, Joe decides to take control of her life and pursue her big dream: she has always wanted to follow in her father's footsteps and build a career as a boxer. But Joe faces major obstacles in her attempts to win over trainer Igor (Martin Brambach) and be accepted as a woman at the local boxing club.
