The Artist Gottfried Helnwein

Art/Biography, Germany 2010

Not available
Helnwein is one of the best known, but also most controversial German-speaking artists since the Second World War. He became known primarily for his hyper-realistic paintings of wounded and bandaged children. Throughout his oeuvre, he deals with the themes of pain, injury, and violence, touching on taboo and irritating topics of recent history. Thus, in particular, the theme of National Socialism is also dealt with in his works; however, the focus of his work is above all the depiction of the child.
