Little Maki flees from a slave trader and befriends the giraffe Zarafa. Zarafa is captured soon after - she is to be a gift for the French king. Maki does not agree. He promises the giraffe's mother to free her daughter and sets off on a balloon journey that takes him from Africa to Paris. On board are the desert prince Hassan and the airshipman Malaterre . When they arrive in the French capital, the three quickly realise that Zarafa cannot cope with his new surroundings. Parisians flock to the newest attraction and pester Zarafa, as she is the first giraffe on the European continent. Now it's up to Maki to save his giraffe friend... An all-round wonderful animated adventure that lovingly combines suspense, sadness, wit and fantasy from the first second to the last.
