17-year-old Zümbüla and her father Kodir are at the center of this film. Kodir Bekmurodow's family lives in Boysun, one of the oldest settlement areas of mankind. As has been customary for generations, the parents determine the future of their daughters: Zümbüla, the youngest of ten children, is soon to be married off. But the young girl has her own ideas and fancies a horseman...With a pilgrimage to Samarkand, 73-year-old Kodir, an avowed Muslim, fulfils a lifelong dream. His daughter accompanies him there. She is supposed to have seen the desert city of Samarkand on the Silk Road once before she is married off against her will...
