Spirit of a dissection

Society/Sentimental Film, Germany 2014

'Spirit of a dissection' takes us on a journey to the limits of our existence at the Anatomical Institute in Halle (Saale). Anatomy claims to be the place "where death is happy to help life". This inscription at the entrance to many anatomical institutes illustrates the special relationship between anatomy and the corpse. For it is here that the bodies of voluntary donors are dissected into the smallest units. In conversation with an anatomist, her staff and body donors, their relationship to death and the body is explored. It becomes clear that despite the professional distance to the corpse, the story of the body donor emerges again and again.
