Berlin Chamissoplatz

Drama/Romance, Germany 1980

Architect Martin is commissioned to renovate a squatted house on Chamissoplatz in Berlin's Kreuzberg district. There he meets Anna, a young student who is working with a citizens' initiative to preserve the residential area at Chamissoplatz. Although this puts his job at risk, Martin falls in love with Anna and starts a relationship with her. Guided by his love for Anna, Martin soon switches sides and supports the residents of Chamissoplatz in their fight against the building speculators. With his calm narrative style, Rudolf Thome combines the political issue of building speculation with an ironically fractured love story in BERLIN CHAMISSOPLATZ. The film was digitally restored in 2014 with funding from the FFA.
