The childhood story of a writer: called Zezé by everyone, he grows up in poor conditions in Brazil in the 1920s/1930s, ever since his father lost his job and started drinking. Quarrels and violence are part of the daily experiences of this life. He is regarded as the boy in the village who has the devil in him, whose pranks always go a touch too far. Only the chance friendship with Portugâ, an older gentleman with a flashy car, gives him support and opens up new paths for him. The film version of the autobiographical novel by José Mauro de Vasconcelos (1920-1984).
