The documentary series follows the course of the Rhine in five stages - from its source to its mouth. Using the Cineflex camera, the filmmakers showcase the Rhine and discover people on its banks who live on and from the river. The interplay of breathtaking aerial shots and moving portraits creates a contemporary image of the river. The journey along the Rhine tells of the love of the inhabitants for their river, but also of the arrogance of the people and the untamed power of the water. The cinematic journey begins at the most important source of the Vorderrhein, Lake Toma in Graubünden. The many headwaters become torrential mountain streams and cut their way through deep gorges, plunge into valleys and gather to form the river which then becomes the mightiest river in Europe.
