Germany 1918: The situation on the Western Front is hopeless and there is rumbling everywhere in the Reich. The starving population is tired of the war, and the soldiers are increasingly refusing to follow orders they consider pointless. The Social Democrats are brought into the government for the first time. This is also the hour of Theodor Chindler, whose anti-war stance from the very beginning is now remembered favorably. Meanwhile, in Neustadt, "Red Richard" and his comrades oppose this administration. Margarete and her partner Clemens join the rebels to prevent a major bloodbath. A direct confrontation with the army loyal to the emperor ensues.
