Gladys works as a kitchen hand on St. Clare. The girls learn that she and her mother have to earn money to support their family since their father died. But Gladys has a big dream: she wants to make the Olympic marathon team and follow in the footsteps of her father, who was once a great athlete. The girls support Gladys as much as they can, because there is an important qualifying race coming up.
