Europe didn't start yesterday... or with the Treaty of Rome, for that matter. Europe is the fruit of a process that began some 2,500 years ago with the Greeks and then the Romans. As they moved across the continent, they planted the seeds of our civilization. Then, for centuries, it was the merchants, clerics, pilgrims and artists who, as they moved about, continued this cross-fertilization of ideas and cultures.
