Outstanding Films, awarded in Berlin at one of the World's Most important Film Festivals
The Berlin International Film Festival has been held annually since 1951. Alongside the festivals in Cannes and Venice, the "Berlinale", as it is known for short, is one of the most important film events in the world, and simply taking part in one of its many sections is a seal of quality for any film. What a special distinction it is to receive one of the awards as well! And it's not just about the films that are successful in the Competition, which are awarded the "Golden Bear" as well as several "Silver Bears" by an international jury!
More than 400 films are presented every year in the various Berlinale sections. And with more than 325,000 tickets sold and 490,000 cinema-goers, the Berlinale is the largest public festival in the world. Around 16,000 trade visitors from 130 countries attend, and some 3,700 journalists from more than 80 countries report on the festival - primarily, of course, on the award-winning festival entries.
Here is a compilation of outstanding feature films and documentaries that won awards at the Berlinale.
